Newgrange Tours

Newgrange tours are one of our most popular tours and can be combined with tours of the other treasures of Ireland’s Ancient East.

Newgrange is often mentioned with it’s famous cousins, Knowth and Dowth. It is a Megalithic Cairn, situated 21 Km from Canola Tours in the Boyne Valley area of Co. Meath Ireland.   It is located 8 kilometres west of Drogheda Town on the north side of the River Boyne.

Newgrange is an exceptionally good example of a passage tomb or cairn built during the Neolithic period, around 3200 BC. This makes it older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids.  Newgrange is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.   Visitors can still enter the chamber throughout the year and have a simulated impression of the sun’s rays entering through the roof box (opening above the door) which lights up the inner 5,000-thousand-year-old chamber during the winter solstice.
